How Manifest V3 Changed What Extensions Can See
Chrome's Manifest V3 extension platform replaced the older, more permissive background-script model with a service-worker architecture that can't run continuously in the background monitoring every page you visit — this was specifically designed to make broad, always-on data collection harder for extension developers to implement even if they wanted to. Combined with the "current tab URL only" permission model, this is a real structural limit on what a browser extension can technically access, not just a policy promise from the developer.
The Zero-Telemetry Claim Is Actually Verifiable
Unlike a server-side "no logs" promise, which requires trusting the operator, a browser extension's claim of sending no data anywhere can be independently checked: opening the browser's network monitor (DevTools) while using the extension shows exactly what requests it makes, if any, in real time. Anyone technically inclined can confirm a "zero telemetry" claim themselves in a few minutes rather than simply taking the developer's word for it, which is a meaningfully stronger privacy guarantee than most server-based tools can offer.
