Frequently Asked Questions

Does editing a torrent change its info-hash?
Only if you edit the info dictionary (name, piece length, files, source). Changing trackers, comments, created-by, and creation date does NOT change the info-hash — the torrent remains identical on the network.
Why would I want to change trackers?
Trackers go offline over time. If the original tracker is dead, your client cannot find peers. Replacing or adding working trackers (especially public ones) lets you resume downloads that stalled years ago.
Can I use this to re-post a torrent to a new tracking site?
Yes. Load the torrent, update the tracker URL to the new site's announce URL, optionally update the source field, then download the modified file. The info-hash stays the same so it is still the same torrent.
What is a tracker tier?
BitTorrent organises trackers in tiers. The client tries all trackers in tier 1 first, then moves to tier 2 if none respond, and so on. Adding trackers to tier 1 ensures they are tried first.
Is this safe to use on private tracker torrents?
Be careful. Many private trackers embed a unique passkey in the announce URL tied to your account. Do not share modified private tracker torrents as this can get your account banned.
Done!
