How it works

What is a dereferer?

👤
Visitor clicks your link
🔗
anonymiz.com/?url\nReferrer stripped here
🌐
Destination site\nSees no referrer
Without dereferer: destination sees Referer: yoursite.com/page  |  With dereferer: destination sees Referer: (none)
1
Copy your link

Get any URL you want to share — a blog post, product page, affiliate link, private forum, or any other destination.

2
Paste and click Anonymize

Our tool wraps your URL: https://anonymiz.com/?https://destination.com. The destination is encoded so only our server can read it.

3
Share the anonymous link

When someone clicks the anonymous link, they land on our redirect page. Our server forwards them to the destination using a no-referrer header.

4
Destination sees no source

The target website's analytics and server logs show the visitor came from nowhere — your URL, campaign, or internal page stays private.

Referrer completely removed

Uses HTTP Referrer-Policy: no-referrer and a blank intermediary page to ensure zero referrer data reaches the destination.

UTM tracker stripper

Remove utm_source, utm_medium, fbclid, gclid, msclkid and 50+ other tracking parameters before anonymizing.

QR code for every link

Get a QR code for your anonymous link — scan it on mobile or download for printing.

Batch convert

Paste multiple URLs at once and get all of them anonymized in one click. Great for webmasters.

Copy as HTML/Markdown

Get ready-to-paste HTML <a> tags or Markdown links — paste directly into your blog or forum post.

Instant, no signup

No account, no email, no limits. Links are generated instantly in your browser. Free forever.

Who uses a dereferer?

🔗
Affiliate marketers

Hide the source page when sharing affiliate links. Advertisers see the click but not your traffic source.

📋
Forum & community members

Share links in private forums without exposing your account page or community URL to external sites.

🕵️
Privacy-conscious users

Browse and share links without letting destination sites build a profile of your browsing habits.

💼
Webmasters

Prevent your site's internal URLs from appearing in competitor or partner server logs when linking out.

📧
Email marketers

Send links where the email platform URL is stripped before reaching the destination site.

🔬
Security researchers

Test URLs and redirect chains without revealing your research environment or tooling.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an HTTP Referrer?
When you click a link, your browser sends a Referer header to the destination website — containing the URL of the page you came from. Website owners use this to see their traffic sources in analytics tools like Google Analytics.
What is a dereferer?
A dereferer is an intermediate page that breaks the referrer chain. When you visit a dereferer link, it forwards you to the destination without sending any Referer header. The destination site sees the visitor came from nowhere.
Why would I want to hide the referrer?
You might want to hide the referrer to protect private page URLs (intranet links, forum threads), prevent competitors from knowing your traffic sources, hide affiliate tracking IDs, share links from confidential internal pages, or simply protect your privacy.
Does this also remove tracking parameters like utm_source?
By default the dereferer wraps the URL as-is. Use our UTM Stripper tab to remove tracking parameters (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign, fbclid, gclid, etc.) from the URL before anonymizing it.
Is the dereferer link permanent?
Yes. The anonymous link is generated client-side based on your URL. It never expires and does not need to be stored in any database — it always works as long as our service is running.
Does Anonymiz log which URLs are visited?
No. We do not log or store the URLs you anonymize. The redirect happens server-side using a no-referrer policy without recording destination URLs. Your links stay private.
What is the difference between this and a URL shortener?
A URL shortener changes the length of a link. A dereferer changes the privacy of a link by stripping the referrer header. Our URL shortener (see menu) also strips referrers, giving you both benefits in one tool.
Can I use this for affiliate links?
Yes. Many affiliate marketers use dereferers to prevent advertisers from seeing exactly which page or traffic source sent each click. This protects your promotional strategy.
Ethical use only. This tool is for legitimate privacy protection. Do not use it to share malicious, illegal, or harmful content. We reserve the right to block redirect patterns that violate our terms.
🔗
What is a referrer?
The HTTP Referer header tells websites which page you came from. If you share a link from your Gmail, the destination site sees "gmail.com" as the referrer.
🙈
Why strip it?
Stripping the referrer protects your privacy and prevents destination sites from knowing where their traffic comes from — useful for competitive research and private browsing.
🚀
How it works
We wrap your link with our redirect service. When the user clicks through, our server redirects them without passing your original URL as the referrer.
📦
Batch convert
Paste multiple URLs at once to convert them all in seconds. Perfect for newsletters, social posts, or any bulk link sharing.

When Should You Use a Dereferer?

Frequently Asked Questions

Does this make me completely anonymous?
No. Stripping the referrer removes the HTTP Referer header but your IP address is still visible to destination sites. For full anonymity, combine our dereferer with a VPN. See our recommended VPNs.
What is the difference between Referer and Referrer?
Both spellings are used. "Referer" (one r) is the original HTTP header name — a deliberate misspelling that has been part of the HTTP standard since 1996. "Referrer" (two rs) is the correct English spelling used in the Referrer-Policy header introduced later.
Does stripping referrer affect SEO?
Slightly. Google Analytics and other tools use the referrer to attribute traffic sources. When you strip referrers, that traffic appears as "direct" in analytics. This does not affect your search rankings.
Can I use this for affiliate links?
Yes. Many affiliate managers strip referrers to protect their traffic sources. Use our Affiliate Link Cloaker for full affiliate link management with click tracking.
