What is EXIF data?+
EXIF (Exchangeable Image File Format) is metadata embedded in image files by cameras and smartphones. It records technical details like camera settings, date and time, GPS coordinates, and device information at the moment the photo was taken.
Can photos reveal my location?+
Yes — if your camera or phone had GPS enabled, the photo contains your exact latitude and longitude. Many people share photos without realising they are sharing their precise location. This tool lets you check and understand what your images reveal.
How do I remove EXIF data before sharing?+
Most image editors can strip EXIF data on export. On Windows, right-click the image → Properties → Details → Remove Properties. On Mac, use Preview → Export and uncheck metadata. You can also use dedicated tools or simply screenshot the image.
Which image formats contain EXIF?+
JPEG and TIFF files nearly always contain EXIF data. PNG files can contain metadata but it is less common. HEIC files (from iPhones) contain full EXIF data. WebP files have limited metadata support.
